Rob and Elton could see that emerging filmmakers need access funding for the realisation and exhibition of their films in addition to make new connections in the sector. This is an integral part of their journey and growth into the industry.
Following an open call in May 2022, three filmmakers, Ais Brady, Jason Branagan and Margaret Rowe, were selected to each create a short film which was premiered at South Dublin Short Film Showcase on 14 July.
“I was delighted to receive funding from SDCC for Forever Hold Your Peace. Getting to make this film in my own back yard with such an incredible cast and crew was brilliant, and I’m very grateful to the Council, Creative Ireland, SCENE and the Local Enterprise Office for making it possible.”
In addition to the screenings, the event included and award presentation, a series of roundtable discussions with 3 judges and Paddy Slattery and an opportunity for up-and-coming filmmakers to gain face to face access and invaluable industry insight/advice from panel members:
Gillian Cooper – Wildcard Distribution
Justin Healy – Executive Producer RTÉ
Jennifer Smyth – Production & Development Coordinator at Screen Ireland
The panel of industry experts gave the participants access and a further understanding of the mechanics and business acumen associated with all stages of the Film business.
Southpaw Pictures strongly believe in the nurturing and the supporting of new talent, and also believe that it is integral to the industry’s growth and sustainability moving forward into the future.
This event is supported by the Creative Ireland South Dublin Programme.
