The Museum in the Classroom. Getting Contemporary Art out of the Museum and into Rural Schools
Developed by the Glucksman Gallery and Creative Ireland Programme’s National Creativity Fund, the Museum Classroom developed a programme that involved young people in 3 rural schools in North Cork (Glanworth National School, Kilmagner National School and Scoil Bhride, Rathcormac) in a learning programme based on the University College Cork’s impressive collection of contemporary art.
Through a series of short term loans and collaborative activities, The Museum Classroom gave young people and teachers the opportunity to interact with art in their own environment.
Never did I think when I was making this work that it would be installed in rural classrooms and would be a catalyst for fledging creativity. Fiona Kelly, participating Artist
