OUR PLACE, OUR STORIES, is about enabling people to
explore themes that are relevant to them, to recognise their uniqueness, their
shared experiences and to see their community in a way they wouldn’t have done
before.
Throughout 2019, Draoicht with the support of
Creative Ireland Programme commissioned 6 artists to work with local community
groups.
- Mulhuddart Men’s Shed & Menitation (Shaun Dunne)
- Mulhuddart Boxing Academy (Megan Kennedy & Jessica Kennedy of Junk Ensemble)
- Daughters of Charity, Blakestown (Jody O’Neill)
- Foróige (Colm Keegan)
- Umunwanyi Olaedo (Igbo Union Women Wing) and D15 Women (FeliSpeaks)
- Hartstown Community College and Coláiste Pobail Setanta (Dylan Coburn Gray).
The community groups represent Blanchardstown’s young , diverse community. Workshops explored what stories each group felt they needed and wanted to tell. Then a process of artistic empowerment shaped those stories in dramatic form, poetic word and physical body.
OUR PLACE OUR STORIES was presented to the people of Blanchardstown on Culture Night, 20th September 2019. The process of each project was documented and this body of work remains as a legacy for the creativity expressed in one community.
