Mná Month

In March 2024, Cashel Library hosted a series of free Mnásome events over the course of the month, available to all persons regardless of pronoun.

Creativity and community are the focus of our philosophy of engagement with our patrons. We endeavour to support all library users to achieve their highest potential through the mechanism of creativity, thereby promoting individual, community and national wellbeing. International Women’s Day falls on the 8th of March while Mother’s Day also takes place during the month making it a perfect time to celebrate the achievements of women.

This project fused several creative strands including jewellery making from recycled materials, herb craft, creative writing, author visits, folk music, dance, sculpture, women’s health, women’s history and genealogy with women of all creeds and nationalities in the area.  These workshops were facilitated by local experts in arts, heritage, libraries, enterprise and community engagement which fosters collaboration and sparks new initiatives.

The wide variety of creative activities attracted over 200 participants and fantastic feedback was received.

Eimear Ryan

"“The “Stone Mad” workshops were a great idea, I learned a lot about creating and designing. I am not a hugely ‘arty’ person but I really enjoyed this and I would definitely do it again”."

“I was delighted to be able to hear award-winning author Eimear Ryan read from her memoir “The Grass Ceiling” and talk about her writing. Amazing to have such an event for free in my local library.”
