Mincéirí Cabaret

The Mincéirí Cabaret was produced by Mary Mc Productions in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council as part of dlr Festival of Inclusion 2023. It included performances by an ensemble of Traveller actors and the involvement of three prolific professional Traveller artists, Oein DeBhairduin, Fin Furey, and Leanne Mc Donagh.

Taking place over two evenings in the Studio Theatre in dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire, Mincéirí Cabaret, Ireland’s first ever Irish Traveller Cabaret, sought to engage a wide and diverse audience in a celebration and presentation of the artistic and creative prowess of the Traveller Community.

Producer Mary McDonagh is a local Irish Traveller. Through her production company and projects such as this, she is seeking to support and make visible the creative talents of her community, with the ultimate goal of opening a School of Performing Arts for Travellers.

‘We share this journey with you, as the ‘an lucht siúil’, may you walk it with us.’

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council was thrilled to support this initiative through our Creative Communities funding. The evening included: dramatic performances of a variety of texts; poetry readings; live music; and a reading of the Proclamation in Cant. It was a powerful and engaging experience for all.
