The project also delivered Laois Through the Lens, featuring 100 images presented together in book format.
This engaging photobook showcases captivating portraits of the people of Laois over the years, some of whom, poignantly, are no longer with us.
Portlaoise Camera Club members were asked to identify a subject and photograph it in a location that was personal to them and reflected their connection with the county. The subjects were then asked to write a few words about themselves in the context of the chosen location, whether work-related or simply personal.
Terry Conroy, Chairperson, Portlaoise Camera Club
"Some of the people in the photographs have now passed away and I would like to think that these images will help to keep them in our minds."
The launch of the exhibition and book was attended by a large crowd of enthusiastic guests.
The Leinster Express, on August 29th, 2023, noted that:
“Portlaoise Camera Club has proudly launched a new exhibition and a book of the same name called Laois Through the Lens. The launch on August 25th was hosted by the Dunamaise Arts Centre and supported by Laois County Council and Creative Ireland.”
Much conversation was sparked by the subjects captured in such artistic form by the many photographers who combined their talents to produce such professional work.
The exhibition ran at Dunamaise Arts Centre from August 25th to September 16th 2023.
The photobook is now available at local bookstores and at all Laois county libraries.
