Yola Today: A New Community Theatre Project

Using the medium of drama and theatre, the Yola Today project will drive the cultural transmission of the Yola language and its heritage in the Forth and Bargy baronies of the Rosslare Municipal District. Theatre practitioner Chris Moran will develop a new play about Yola with the local community. Chris will conduct interviews and desk research and invite the community to contribute poems and music that inspire content for the play. Once developed and rehearsed, a small group of local actors will perform the play for the community.

Additionally, Chris will deliver a suite of resources about the Yola language in two beautiful resource packs – one for children and one for adults. This will include theatre and storytelling exercises, links to audio interviews, reflections on what Yola means to the community, and a full script of the new Yola inspired play.

This project is one of Wexford County Council’s Culture Team projects for 2025. A collaboration between Rosslare Municipal District, the Heritage Office and Libraries, it encourages cross-departmental working through community focused projects.
