Words, Camera, Action! Film – Literature Festival
Galway Public Libraries propose to celebrate Galway’s status as a designated UNESCO City of Film, with a Film & Literature Festival. The overarching theme of the festival is the art of film inspired by the creative act of reading- exploring the creative links between reading, writing and film. The festival programme will encompass panel discussions, workshops, an exhibition and screenings.
Progressing the project from its inception in 2019 where the focus was on direction/production/screenwriting, in 2022 we intend to add the elements of Music and Costume and their role in enhancing narrative and character development.
Proposed Workshop Themes:
* the role of costume in character development
* music as narrative
* adapting to screen
* Film – production/direction of films adapted from literature
Format:
Panel discussions and/or workshops to be held in each of the three city libraries.
A musical score performance
An exhibition of costumes used in Irish made films
The guest panellists/facilitators will be high profile authors, composers, musicians, producers, directors, wardrobe archivists and writers who have worked on films adapted from literature. Preferably Irish artists with an international reputation or international artists who have produced work with an Irish theme or set location.
