WELCOME TO IRELAND - Meltdown of an Irish Tour Guide

WELCOME TO IRELAND – Meltdown of an Irish Tour Guide is a one-person show written and performed by Jack Walsh.

In this hilarious and poignant story, a Dublin tour guide is having difficulty keeping his head above water and a roof over his head, as rents go up and the house he is living in is sold from under him.

With perceptive satire, it brings into focus the stress points between the housing crisis and over-tourism.  In 70 minutes, Jack plays about 40 characters in a whirlwind of a story, including landlords, tourists, Dublin street characters, St Patrick, W.B. Yeats, James Connolly, Jonathan Swift and even a moon-walking squirrel!

By day, he sells ‘Brand Ireland’ to tourists from far and wide, with enchanting tales of ceol and craic; by night, he faces the threat of eviction from his chronically-damp Capel Street flat, feeling the floor falling from under his feet, with no hope of escape.

With record numbers of people in Emergency Accommodation, including over 4,000 children, this show is extremely topical, confronting Ireland’s rental crisis and how one person battles to keep afloat in a city sinking under greed.  A true story told with humour, passion, truth and a comically-unfiltered mind.
