Tower Tales
Tower Tales is a unique film project that brings together the Tower Community Association, Cork Community Media Hub, and Cloghroe National School. This exciting initiative aims to celebrate the history and heritage of the Tower area through a collaborative and creative approach.
Students from Cloghroe National School will work with filmmakers Eddie Noonan and Emma Bowell to learn about filmmaking and conduct interviews with older residents of Tower. These interviews will be crafted into a short film, showcasing the rich stories and history of the community. Starting with fun, interactive workshops for the students to introduce them to the filmmaking process, they will then research their local area, guided by conversations with their parents and grandparents. They will develop interview questions and participate in filming, taking on roles both in front of and behind the camera. Through local outreach, older residents will be invited to share their stories, with filming taking place at the Tower Hall and various local sites. The community will also have a say in the editing process, ensuring the final film reflects the collective vision.
The completed film will be screened for the community in Autumn 2024. Topics will include the Muskerry Light Railway, St Anne’s Hydro and Turkish Baths, local mills, and everyday life in Tower.
Tower Tales promises to engage the community, bridging generations, and fostering a renewed interest in local history in a fun and inclusive way.
