Tools of the Trade 2019
Tools of the Trade is an art education project that aims to connect school children with interesting places of work that are in their immediate environment. Students from Bunscoil Chríost Rí, and Greenmount National School Children explore the connection that exists between the creative and inquisitive processes of art and the marine. With artists Leah Murphy and Susie Walsh they will visit and explore the workplaces of Meitheal Mara Community Boatyard, Ballycotton Seafoods, the English Market and MaREI, UCC, Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy.
In this project the children get the opportunity to see behind closed doors in many interesting and varied places of work. They experience diverse professional working environments that they may never have had the chance to see before. As well as an introduction to artists and craftspeople at work, they discover the creative elements behind other professions. With the structure of introductory workshops, site visits with sketchbooks and note-taking, and then a more focused creative response- the children experience first hand the idea of the artists line of enquiry.
