The Voice of the Young People
Sandra Kelly, Independent curator is delighted to work with John Conway on their up-and-coming project The Voice of Young People supported by Creative Ireland.
The Voice of Young People focuses on the key themes of the Creative Waterford Open call, the project places the voice of the young person at its core. The project focuses on capturing a new generation's way of expressing language and sayings based on the meeting of cultures and (mis)understandings. O’ Connell Street is the ideal location for this project to be presented, as it is culturally diverse with a rich heritage of Cultural activity. The project seeks to acknowledge that perceptions of language and culture may be a huge factor for people engaging in activities and embedding in a community.
Visual Artist John Conway will work with young people to collaboratively produce a series of small text based neon works which will be installed on the facades of buildings along O'Connell Street, Waterford. John is a visual artist based in Rua Red Arts Centre, South County Dublin. His work is characterised by innovative multi-disciplinary projects and sophisticated solo and participatory artworks which are often produced in response to sensitive, challenging, or novel contexts. He frequently commissions, curates, and collaborates with other arts and non-arts specialists and orchestrates complex multi- stakeholder projects.
