The Táin Tapestry in Longford
'The Táin Tapestry' is an inter-county collaborative community arts project, where five tapestries/banners will be created, each depicting a scene from the great epic 'Táin Bó Cúailnge' that relates to each of the five counties that the Táin March festival marches through every year, namely, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Meath and Louth.
The lead artist responsible for designing the tapestries is Sophie Coyle. Sophie has a wealth of experience in a community arts setting and has worked on tapestries such as this before. A project facilitator will be appointed in each county and will work with a group of sewers/needleworkers from the community based in each county and assist them to produce the tapestry based on the artist's vision.
The tapestry will be completed and exhibited in time for the launch of the Táin March Festival 2022. After the festival each county will place their tapestry on semi-permanent display so it can be enjoyed by the general public.
