The Spooks Parade - Samhain Night Fever - Disco Ain't Dead
This year Droichead Arts Centre's Spooks Parade is set to light up the ancient streets of Drogheda with dance moves and groovy grooves, as it makes its way right through the heart of the town. Expect sequences and glitter balls, frills and that way over the top clash of discotheque colours as the gathering of schools and community groups get down to the real beat on the street under the main barbican of groove itself, St. Laurences Gate. Samhain will have its say and inevitably, have its way.
A participative collaborative cross community arts project, with six primary schools, 180 children, across Drogheda and East Meath. Working with a lead team of established artists, as well as community musicians, brass bands and a choreographer. Children will be involved in an engaging workshop programme of arts and creative workshops to create the final spectacle and parade. The aim of the project is to create opportunities for children and young people to engage with arts and culture by creating access to innovative arts programmes. It will encourage and foster creativity in children, and enable the creative potential of all children involved. The project will allow children to have a voice, take ownership and allow them to express themselves, all of which contributes to positive mental health and to a wider healthier community. Arts and creativity create a positive and economic impact on children and communities by developing self-esteem and confidence.
