The Power of Memory - Memoir Writing with Éilís Ní Dhuibhne
One day in-person creative writing workshop as part of Connections Through Literature in partnership with The Irish Writers’ Centre.
Course Summary:
Memory is your capital. Imagination is your power of invention and skill in using memories to create a new work of art, unique to you – be it memoir, story, or novel. If you are an eager and voracious reader, you may have learnt how to do this so well that it feels like a natural instinct. For all of us, however, there is always plenty to learn about how to put an essay or a book together from other experienced writers.
Course Outline: This is a one off workshop, lasting for two hours. In this workshop on Memoir Writing, we will discuss memoirs which you may have read in advance. We will look at various kinds of memoir: life story, illness memoir, childhood memoir, grief memoir. We will examine some ways of selecting material from your memory, and shaping it into an essay, a story, or a book.
Course Level: Beginner/Emerging
Course Outcomes: Inspiration, and some practical writing tips.
The workshop with Eilish is taking place on 30th November in Newbridge Library, 2-4pm. Applications are open now and will close on November 8th.
