The paintings and drawings heritage of County Offaly, 1750-2000 – Offaly Historical Society

Commencing on the 2nd April, 2025, Offaly Historical Society will lead on this project which focuses on researching the painting and drawings heritage of County Offaly over the period from c. 1750 to 2000 which will be explored by writers via fifteen articles on painters and other artists. While many will have a connection with Offaly via their topographical work others will have come from the county but worked in portraiture or more contemporary idioms. The work of Michael Scott and Mary Rosse will also be included as will that of the King sisters and Evie Hone. All articles will be posted on offalyhistoryblog.com and www.offalyhistory.com. The articles will be shared via newsletters, Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky.  The image featured is of the old Banagher bridge by George Petrie which was published in 1820. Petrie’s work will be featured in two articles in the series.
