The Mantle - Performance Event

To conclude our summer programme at Rossbeigh, join us on the beach for this final performance event, where we’ll be returning our stories to the strand through collective song & movement. For this event we’re collaborating with Amano Miura, a singer, songwriter, poet and activist producing work in English and Irish. Born in Kyūshū and raised in Kerry, her work is inspired by the earth, love, justice, cultural fluidity and the nuances of language(s) spoken and unspoken.

She writes across styles and genres including free form poetry and spoken word, as well as folk, pop and electronic music. In 2024 Amano was awarded the Traditional Arts Bursary from the Arts Council of Ireland to pursue a personal study in sean-nós singing. She is working with the masters of the art form to investigate what it means “to be steeped” in a tradition today.

Rossbeigh strand is known for its mythical associations with Tír na nÓg. the aura of this particular story reminds us that the place is steeped in tales. through a series of events this summer, we‘ll be gathering these local stories, in whichever forms they happen to resurface - told, written, sung, passed down, encountered, divined. they could even be objects, washed up here along the shoreline. by bringing these stories together and experimenting with different ways of circulating them, we hope to create a community resource for sharing knowledge about this shapeshifting coastal area.
