The Mantle - Biodiversity Walk

Join us at Rossbeigh Strand for a guided Beach Nature Walk. This experience offers a unique opportunity to explore the coastal ecosystems of the area and learn about the local biodiversity.

The event aims to educate and inspire the community about the importance of coastal ecosystems and their role in environmental sustainability. It’s a chance to connect with nature, learn something new, and understand the significance of biodiversity in our local area.

Jasmine McCarthy, Plant scientist and Naturalist will share insights into the habitats, flora, fauna and the environment of Rossbeigh, highlighting the importance of preserving these natural habitats. Jasmine will use her local knowledge of the area to talk about the formation of the dynamic landforms of the sand spit and dunes shaped by the wind and waves, then move on to the importance of the salt marshes that form part of Castlemaine harbour which are essential for supporting various wildlife and act as natural flood defence, the walk will move on to and the Maine and Caragh river estuaries where freshwater meets the sea, creating a rich environment for diverse species and then provide an introduction to some of the flowers and plants that call Rossbeigh home.

The walk will last approximately one hour. Please dress for the outdoors and wear appropriate footwear as there is some uneven ground.
