As St Michael’s Church in Creeslough, Co Donegal, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2021, this new film takes a look at the unique work of renowned architect, Liam McCormick, and the people who helped build this unique structure.

Inspired by the rugged local landscape, McCormick’s vision was to mirror the location through architectural design. St Michael’s Church was to be one of his most ambitious creations with the iconic vista of Muckish mountain playing a central theme in his creation.

With a mix of previously unreleased archive material and modern digital technology, the story is told through the eyes of those involved with design, building and unveiling of the church.

A wealth of footage filmed by the late Canon Fr Tommy Doherty sits at the heart of this work. His trusty 8mm camera captured the full process of its construction - from humble green field site through its grand unveiling - as well as the cast of characters that brought his vision into existence.
