Take Me To The River - An educational public art project engaging with our natural water resources.

A collaborative vision between Solstice Arts Centre, Navan and Cineál Research & Design Architects, Take me to the River is a creative public engagement project bringing communities together in the fostering and long-term preservation of our local waterbodies in County Meath.

Over the course of a year, Solstice and Swift cultural centres, in collaboration with Cineál: Research + Design architectural practice presented a series of public engagement interventions to encourage active public participation and awareness of our local waterways. Artists, the public and environmental specialists journeyed beside, within and above, the River Nanny and River Boyne, exploring the biodiversity, water quality, climate change, in addition to our cultural, holistic and economic connection to our rivers. Using photography, film, print, sculpture, drawing, sound recording, mapping and creative writing, ecological learning and artistic activities, ‘Take me to the River’ intertwines intimate responses with communal ecological activism and participation.

Exhibiting these responses at Swift Cultural Centre Trim, the exhibition puts forward a creative space for continued public discussion on the preservation and enjoyment of our waterways, immersing visitors in the life of our rivers through a ‘Creative Catchment Map’, a collaborative curation of artworks and observations from the workshops. A creative learning and engagement programme for schools and the public takes place during the exhibition.
