Swinging June community development strand
‘Swinging June’ is a new short film project by Katie Honan, driven by creative community
engagement. The film explores how dance can enhance the movement of people living with
Parkinson’s. A story about June, a formidable woman who is desperate to dance at her
granddaughter's communion, but afraid her aging body will be a barrier — she fights for strength
to swing on the big day with her best friend.
This year, Katie and an exceptional team will embark on a series of creative activities with people
living with Parkinson’s in Waterford. From coffee mornings creatively discussing and sharing ideas
on the new short film script ‘Swinging June’, to a dance workshop facilitated by an experienced
community dance artist, to artistic input on the film production from those living with the condition - this creative engagement with those with lived experience of Parkinson's Disease will form the foundation of the film project.
