Social Housing in 20th Century Cork
An exhibition and supporting publication of photography and archived architectural drawings will tell the story of Social Housing in Cork city in the 20th Century.
Housing provision is currently a very topical subject. In the early 20th century, it was also a very political issue, and, in many ways, it not only shaped the form of the city and its suburbs but had an immense impact on the lives of ordinary Cork citizens.
The purpose of this visual archival study is to celebrate this physical achievement, which influenced people both economically and socially, created homes, formed communities and neighbourhoods and has been instrumental in the place-making of Cork’s new suburbs. In other words, the building bricks of the city.
The exhibition will take place in the Atrium of Cork City Hall in late 2021 once Covid19 restrictions allow.
