Shared Island Traditional Skills for Creatives
Most creative industries are micro in nature, and work in a solitary way much of the time. We are interested in supporting communities of crafters or other creatives in our areas to come together. The project will initially build up a sense of community in our own local authority areas with creatives, specifically those interested in traditional skills, and after two groups have been established through a series of workshops in Waterford and in Mid and East Antrim, we will then begin to make linkages between the two groups, North and South.
In Waterford we are interested in examining textiles and weaving. We will advertise an open call for creatives to participate, and run weaving workshops with an artist / facilitator such as Lucy Hyland: Home • Self-Care (R)Evolution • Lucy Hyland
In Mid and East Antrim we will follow a similar process and partner with the Construction Industry Trade Board NI: CITB - Upcoming Heritage Events (citbni.org.uk) to provide heritage skills workshops in blacksmithing and other traditional skills such as working with stone and lime with organisations such as Hot Milk Forge, Martinstown (blacksmithing) https://visitantrimglens.com/member/hot-milk-forge/
The Rock Stone Masonry, Glenarm (stone dressing) https://www.therockstonemasonry.co.uk/
Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
