SETU Stitching Project
Fast fashion is a huge issue amongst young adults, but what is the solution?
Clothing repair is a great way of prolonging the life of textiles, helping to address the environmental impacts of the clothing industry. To encourage repair and upcycling of clothing, it is vital to teach basic skills such as repairing buttons and stitching fabrics to the younger generation.
This project will bring a textile artist into SETU university to provide drop-in workshops on clothing repair and upcycling for students and staff. We hope that this project will not only upskill the university community in creative ways to combat fast fashion, but will also demonstrate the stress-reducing effects of a mindful activity such as sewing when studying for exams or chasing deadlines.
