Saol Cholmcille
This project titled Saol Cholmcille or The Life of Colmcille is being undertaken by the pupils of St. Joseph’s National School, Rathmullan. The aim of the project is to tell the story of their local saint bilingually, in animated form, in a child friendly manner.
This will begin on 23.8.21 when Colmcille historian and former teacher Christy Gillespie will meet with the children at the school over three days where he will present the complete story to them with the aid of a Powerpoint Presentation. Once the children have a good overview of the narrative, they will be then tasked with editing the story down for a three-minute animated film. This will involve drafting, editing and proof-reading skills to produce the final sequence of narration as will be used in the final production.
Cormac O’Kane an animator with LYIT will then visit the school where he will bring the children through the main sections of the story, working out the scenes and characters that would be needed for the tale and story boarding.
He will explain to them how figures move in animation and how many figures and backdrops would be needed for the three-minute presentation.
The targeted audience will be for the school community, history societies in the locality, and for all other schools within the county and around Ireland who wish to have the saint’s life story in a child friendly form. This is currently not available.
