Rahan to Clonmacnoise Ecumenical Pilgrimage

Embark on a remarkable spiritual and cultural journey through the heart of Ireland’s monastic landscape. The bi-annual Rahan to Clonmacnoise Ecumenical Pilgrimage invites walkers and cyclists of all faiths and backgrounds to explore the beauty, history, and deep-rooted spirituality of Offaly’s Hidden Heartlands. Our journey begins with a service at the ancient Romanesque Church of St. Carthage in the peaceful townland of Tullbeg, Rahan. From there, we’ll travel along the Grand Canal, through the evocative peatland landscapes, across ancient Eskers, and onto the Slí Mór pilgrimage path, culminating in the sacred grounds of Clonmacnoise, one of Ireland’s most revered monastic sites. Whether on foot or by bike, this pilgrimage offers breathtaking scenery, sacred spaces, and moments for reflection, prayer, and meaningful conversation. It's a celebration of unity, connection, and spiritual renewal. Note there will be scheduled time for prayer, meditation and reflection. Refreshments will be provided on route including hot lunches, toilets. There will be an option to participate in the full pilgrimage or join for a part of it.  A bus will be available at Clonmacnoise to bring people back to their cars along the route to Rahan. Bus tickets must be booked in advance on Eventbrite. For further details check out Clara Heritage Society Face Book page.
