Poetry on the Edge
Poetry on the Edge is a programme which will comprise a number of professional writers working in Secondary Schools. The schools can choose which classes to participate in the programme (whether it be Transitions Years, Fifth Years, Leaving Certs etc.).
The aim of the project is to make creative writing and literature accessible for young people. One of the obstacles for young people engaging with literature is that it can often seem too academic or stuffy for them to fully embrace it.
Poetry on the Edge will use writers whose work will have an affinity with young peoples’ lives and attitudes.
The writers will work in the schools for three days and will deliver public workshops (for adults in the evenings). The week will culminate with a readings event featuring all three writers.
Poetry on the Edge is part of Ballina Fringe Festival.
