Playful Pathways to Senior Vitality
Playful Pathways to Senior Vitality aims to promote senior wellness through circus-inspired and drama-based games and activities designed to enhance mental cognition, social engagement, co-ordination and physical mobility. This pilot program with Cluain Lír Community Nursing Unit in Mullingar will research ways of facilitating these activities and ensure they meet the unique needs and wishes of senior populations in nursing homes.
This research period will be used to develop a plan for workshops that can be brought to other nursing homes across the country. These workshops will incorporate play, creativity, physical activity, and social interaction. Through interactive exercises participants will engage both their minds and bodies fostering joy and resilience.
Circus-inspired activities provide challenges for participants that promote co-ordination, balance and motor skills which all stimulate neuroplasticity, helping to stave off cognitive regression and improve functions such as memory, problem-solving, and attention.
Through playful activities this project provides an enjoyable and effective way for seniors to stay physically active, boost brain power, and enhance emotional well-being, ultimately contributing to a higher quality of life.
