Petticoat Dancers
The project was inspired by the legend of Petticoat Loose and initially set out as a collaboration with the Busking Festival who planned to make a film about the folktale. The artist Brigid Teehan had hoped to do a series of collaborative arts workshops to produce a series of mixed media creations known as 'Petticoat Dancers' which were due to be displayed in Denis Burke Park in August as part of the Festival. As a result of Covid 19 the Festival did not go ahead, so Brigid developed an alternative output which involved a series of workshops in the South Tipperary Arts Centre in August and worked with a small number of participants.
The workshops included a discussion around the story and reference material and the artist subsequently worked on a number of petticoats following the workshops. The dancers were displayed in shop windows in Clonmel during August and September. Following this exhibition the artist also engaged with Cuan Saor the women's refuge and provided them with a Petticoat Dancers pack including a handmade blank petticoat, art materials and research and links to story. An Arts therapist then facilitated a private group who completed their own petticoat.
