Newton Barbara's Theatre for Development, in collaboration with the Abbey Theatre, enables participants, International Protection applicants, to explore creative expression through drama activities; learn techniques to manage stress and anxiety; discover positive ways to adapt to a new environment; meet people from diverse backgrounds and share experiences. They will also earn a certificate of participation from the Abbey Theatre.

Newton is a Nigerian film and theatremaker, who arrived in Ireland in February 2023 seeking International Protection. In Nigeria, Newton used storytelling and films to bring about positive behaviour change in the society, collaborating with International partners to develop the creative film industry. 

In 2025, Newtons programme will be based in Clondalkin and will work to create a theatre group for International Protection applicants.
