Narratives Unfolded: Older Adults Creative Response to Cork's Visual Arts

Age & Opportunity Arts initiative delivered in Cork by Muintir na Tíre Cork and supported by the HSE, Cork City Council and Cork County Council. "Narratives Unfolded" is a creative project presented by Cork Cultural Companions, which aims to enriching the lives of older adults in Cork City through engagement with visual arts and creative writing. Led by award-winning writer, poet, and storyteller Paddy Doyle, this series of eight workshops will provide participants with the opportunity to explore visual art exhibitions in Cork City and creatively respond to them through prose, poetry, or storytelling.

The project will run through May and June 2024 and will consist of 3 exhibition visits to art galleries in Cork City, including the Crawford Art Gallery's ‘A Matter of Time’' exhibition, The Glucksman Creative Ageing Curatorial Tour of the ‘Mysterious Ways: Art, faith and transcendence’ exhibition, and a visit to the Lavit Gallery ‘Coalescence’ exhibition. These visits will be complemented by three writing sessions held in Cork City Library, providing participants with a structured environment to reflect on their experiences and express themselves creatively.

A final performance of participants' work will take place in July in agreement with one of the arts venues to bring the project to a close. A public performance, with all members of Cultural Companions invited, will allow participants to give back and to add to the cultural life of the city.
