Music Teaching Residency for 55+ with Music Network
A shared learning opportunity for County Wicklow residents aged 55 and over, presented by Wicklow Arts Office and Music Network.
This project in its fourth year has been a resounding success and lead to the independent formation of a new local music group for past participants of the scheme The Barn Ensemble which is led by its members and is established independently of the scheme. The Barn Ensemble receives regular mentorship workshops and performs at community events, libraries and nursing homes. The programme has created this new outlet for creativity in the county and social connection for those over 55+ and aligns with the Council’s Age Friendly Policy and County Development Plan ambition to be a vibrant county to live and work in at all ages of life.
In Phase 4 the project will call out for new participants with a new ensemble of professional County Wicklow Musicians to lead the programme. The focus of the project is on encouraging older people over the age of 55 to return to playing an instrument and share the joy of group music-making. Participants will receive free one-to-one and group tuition with professional musicians on a variety of musical instruments. Instruments will be provided if necessary for the duration of the project.
The project will be based at Wicklow County Campus, Clermont House, Newrath, Rathnew, County Wicklow with anticipated commencement in November 2024. An open call for applications to participate will be circulated.
