Midland Tunes in Harmony

“Midland strings”, an adult amateur string ensemble based in Tullamore are playing a few traditional tunes linked to the Midlands and especially Offaly in the Tullamore Library during Heritage week.

“Midland Strings” is a continuation group from the pilot project “Making music in Offaly” in Aug/Sept 2022, which was created by Adele O’Dwyer, a renown cellist from Tullamore, and financed at the time by Music Network and Age-Friendly Ireland. Thanks to the generosity of the Tullamore Library, the Offaly Arts Council and the enthusiasm of the participants, the ensemble grew over time giving adult amateur string players in the Midlands a platform to play tunes together.

Liz Carroll, whose family originates from Offaly and renown fiddler player based in Chicago, has generously offered the group to play some of her compositions.

William Troy, a local composer from Ballyfin, is adapting the tunes to the group (violin, viola, cello and double bass)

Please join us during Heritage Week on Tuesday the 20st of August 2024 from 06.30  to 7.30 pm in Tullamore library.
