Mia Gallagher at Ennis Book Club Festival
EBCF commissioned writer Mia Gallagher to curate a special show from the Arts Council Collection in Visual Arts to exhibit during the Festival and to write a short story inspired by the artwork. Metamorphosis: Characters in Collision, is the title of the show she has created including works by Alice Maher, Dorothy Cross, and Brian Maguire. The Arts Council Collection began in 1962 and is now one of the most important in Ireland.
EBCF audiences were able to view the Exhibition throughout the month prior to the Festival and two events were organised to support the Exhibition at the weekend of the Festival
Mia and EBCF Artistic Director, Paul Perry, discussed the process of the project – from its genesis, to its curation, to the writing of Mia’s story. The aim was to give EBCF audience the opportunity to see artwork by some of the country’s best artists and to follow the creative journey of the project. Mia also read her short story in 3 special durational performances on the weekend of the Festival.
There was national press coverage for the project in the Irish Times and can be viewed here
EBCF conducted surveys over the weekend and online and 97% of the audiences were very satisified.
