Mayo Creative Ireland Heritage Week

Mayo Creative Ireland Heritage Week runs from Saturday 12th August to Sunday 20th August.

This year’s theme is Living Heritage, and everyone is invited to explore the traditions, practices, knowledge and skills that have been passed down through generations.

There is a fantastic programme of events lined up for the week.

Over the week you can take part in traditional basket weaving, spinning, woodwork or rope making workshops; attend a free family fun day at the Céide Fields; explore biodiversity at Breaffy, Turlough or Claremorrris; share in the pastimes and traditions of the locals with Keelogues Heritage Group; or attend a commemoration in Ceathrú Thaidhg of members of the US Merchant Navy Crew from SS Rochester who drowned during World War 1.

You can join the team at the Davitt Museum for a demonstration of the innovative utilisation of traditional instruments to record climatological data; or visit Balla to hear more about the Mayo Holy Wells Project and the customs and cures associated with them.

This is just a small selection of what’s on offer.
