In March 2025 Kildare County Council officially opened the innovative energy-efficient DemoHouse in Maynooth, as part of its Decarbonising Zone initiative. 

The DemoHouse is a house in Maynooth which the public can visit to see, and feel, the results of energy upgrade retrofit, sustainability and environmental measures, and universal accessibility.  

The DemoHouse will be available to the public to view from Thursday 13th March 10.00am – 1.00pm, and each Thursday morning 10.00am – 1.00pm thereafter. The viewing will be by appointment only.

Through the Creative Communities programme, KCC has commissioned an immersive video, using imagination to show what Maynooth would look like if climate and biodiversity measures were introduced in the town. This 3D visualisation presents as a real-time environment of the main street in Maynooth, so that locals and all interested parties can see what it may be like 10 or more years into the future.
