Mary Immaculate College Children's Choir

The Mary Immaculate College Children’s Choir was initiated in 2013 by Dr. Ailbhe Kenny, Lecturer Music Education (MIC), as a university- school partnership to make meaningful links with primary schools. It is a partnership between the Transforming Education through Dialogue (TED) Project and the Department of Arts Education and Physical Education in MIC and the PLUS schools involved. PLUS is a network of DEIS Band 1 primary schools in Limerick City and County which is facilitated by the TED Project. Since 2013 approx. 650 children from nine DEIS schools have participated in the choir to date:

The initiative sees third level students at MIC involved in active voluntary engagement with selected schools over an 8 week period from September to December 2023. Students gain focused professional development in choral leadership during weekly mentoring sessions with the choral director at MIC and go on to deliver a common repertoire in schools. This work builds to large and small-scale performances in MIC.

Approximately 120 3rd and 4th class children will participate in the choir. They will deliver two joint rehearsals for all classes on campus in MIC in the first semester and a performance in the Forum, TARA Building in December 2023.

Dates:

Mary Immaculate College students go out to schools weekly to deliver a common repertoire over 8 weeks, starting on 09th October 2023 until the 08th December 2023

Two joint rehearsals:- 28th November & 12th December 2023
