Máire Mhac an tSaoi - A new Irish language poetry publication

To support the poet Louis de Paor's publication of some of Máire Mhac an tSaoi's final work.

Louis de Paor worked with Máire Mhac an tSaoi for the last 10-15 years of her life, while she was living in Meath. He found among other items 3 old Irish poems she did translations of and he feels they are worthy of a high-quality publication. The poems are The Song of Amergin from the Book of Invasions, early/medieval Irish and a well-known celebration of Ireland; the Hag of Beara, also well known; and the Lament for Columcille which is the earliest known poem in Irish to have survived, said to have been composed at his death but most likely of somewhat later date than that.

He envisages the poems in the original Irish, in modern Irish and in English translation (both Maire’s work), with an introduction re context etc. about 50 pages in total. The work will be published in partnership with an Irish language publisher in a high-quality, limited-edition print run of 500 copies.
