Mahon Community Art Project
The Brothers of Charity Community Access Programme (CAP) in Mahon is dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual disabilities in becoming active and integrated members of their community. In 2024, the Mahon Community Art Project will bring together CAP service users with a local older person's painting group to foster creativity, connection, and shared experiences.
Building on the trust and familiarity between these two groups, participants will meet every fortnight throughout the year to support one another and explore a common theme: memories. The project invites participants to bring images and stories that hold personal significance—be it cherished family moments, meaningful places, or spaces that offer solace and reflection.
These personal images will be collaboratively transformed into a series of collaged, semi-abstract landscapes. These collages will then serve as the foundation for creating large-scale lino prints. The project is not focused on individual artistic skill but on the collective expression and contribution of the group, allowing participants to explore and express their memories while discovering common ground.
Through this shared artistic journey, the project aims to build connections, encourage self-expression, and provide a platform for participants to reflect on and celebrate their experiences together.
