Magnetise
Magnetise is an innovative collaborative dance project between six international professional dance artists and three local community groups. The project is managed by local performance company Undercurrent and is supported and hosted by the Dock Arts Centre. It is structured as a series of collaborative workshops, accompanied by discussion platforms, public performances and professional development opportunities. Development of core themes, framework and collaborative workshop content has grown out of discussion with the community groups, Bright Sparks (A youth theatre group made up of children with special needs), WILL (Women Independently Living in Leitrim) and Creative Current (a newly formed youth dance group based at The Dock). Research with the professional practitioners has been ongoing since early 2019. Investigating inherent connections to earth, landscape and mass, Magnetise explores the potential of renewed attention to gravity, through somatic dance practices, as a means of living more deeply. It explores the body in these practices, as the multi sensory resource informing how we navigate in the world and in our lives. It is a project with international reach bringing together a highly skilled group of professional artists at the Dock developing innovative approaches to performance, dance and collaborative practice. A project with community engagement at its core, and the fundamentals of deepening experience through movement practices and connections to landscape
