Legends Project
This multidisciplinary creative project (which was initiated for Cruinniú, working with young people in direct provision and mixing with other young people in our county) will build on the foundations laid for Cruinniú by working with either a secondary school, youth group, new immigrants to our county and the young people in direct provision for a 10-week programme from September – November.
The young people will be facilitated to tell stories (legends and myths) from their own cultural backgrounds including children from the diverse community in Monaghan. This project is about sharing and celebrating stories of those from Irish culture and those from ethnic minorities in Monaghan. This project would involve asylum seekers who are children from the families that live in the Monaghan direct provision centre and children from those families who have refugee status.
The project aims to be a cultural exchange between the Irish community and those from ethnic minority backgrounds. It creates opportunities for increased citizen participation for young people who are asylum seekers and refugees to engage with children from the Irish community as they are often excluded.
