Knit-Stitch project
Stitching the Community Together is an art based inter-generational funded initiative centered around wool and knitting. Schools will receive 5 inter-generational knitting kits from Wool in School. The objective of the initiative is to encourage inter-generational learning through the heritage of knitting while also linking in with the curriculum ‘myself and the wider world’
The knitting is about connections, the invisible thread between children and older people has become frayed. The aim is to strengthen this bond with wool and magic, by knitting a beautiful bunting together representing friendship, courage, strength and most importantly knitting lives back together.
Sharing moments and creating memories through the tradition of knitting is also at the heart of this very special activity. As part of the initiative each school will be twinned with a Nursing Home and supported by Wool in School. The five kits will then be split between a nursing home in the community.
The initiative is fully supported by Donegal Age Friendly and its Networks.
