Hellfire and Yonder: Oral History and Folklore Project
The Hellfire and Yonder: Oral History and Folklore Project provides an opportunity for older members of Ballyroan community and beyond to re-connect with people and places as we safely emerge from the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Creative Michael Fortune will lead a series of oral history and folklore workshops that will engage an older audience who have been particularly deprived of opportunities for creative connections within in the community.
This project aims to combat isolation and marginalisation of older people, not only by recording the stories for the benefit of the wider community but by cultivating the potential of participants as oral historians and folklorists empowered to record the past and the present for themselves. The workshop series will also provide practical guidance and support on the use of simple technologies for this purpose, including the transfer of work from old technologies to new. A video or series of videos produced by the participants in which they are recording oral history and local folklore will be launched in the Ballyroan library at a date to be confirmed.
