Guide to Writing Healing Poems with Amy Abdullah Barry

Course Summary:
In this workshop we will discuss and explore how to take the story in your head and transfer it onto the page in a meaningful way by the writers’ creative material – words.

This course will include: 
- Tips for writing your own poetry. 
- The enthusiasm to write well.
- Close reading of some healing poems by established poets, whose methods and techniques will be discussed.
- Prompts and guidance: Breaking into the blank page with triggering exercises etc.
- The Magic of Vivid Verbs: How to use vivid verbs to bring your scenes to life and having adventure with words.
- Goal and intention setting: We will generate new work, and consider practices to further develop our writing.
- Delicate juxtaposition of detail.

Course Level: 
Beginner

Course Outcomes:
Writers will be able to generate new work for submissions, and to have a portfolio of work. How to bring daily discipline to poetry writing. Tips getting your work out there.

Course will take place in person in Naas Library & Cultural Centre on Saturday 27th of July, from 10am to 4pm
