Grian Ard - SUNTOWN Festival
SUNTOWN Festival will take place on the hill of Granard – a hill in ancient times known as Grian Ard; a beacon hill upon which the great fire was lit. This project is a cultural reawakening of connections with place and people. ‘Listen to the land - it speaks’ one Manchán Magan once said. The great Bile (Ash) of Uisneach fell north to Granard where the seeds found new life. It is now as a new multi-cultural community, that we will gather to celebrate at the height of summer- the coming of the high sun.
This year, SUNTOWN Festival takes place over the weekend of July 5th, 6th & 7th.
The Official Opening Night takes place in Granard Townhall / Market House (N39 D2N4) on Friday 5th at 7.30pm. It will be a night celebrating the rich literature of Granard and Granard Writers will be performing 'Diary of a Town' by Noel Monahan.
Saturday night from 8pm will see a festival concert at Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre with "Cronin" and friends performing. This will be followed with the lightning of the Beacon Fire on Granard Hill.
Sundays activities will include a gathering for Midsummer Mindfulness at 12.30pm at Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre.
This free festival will included Heritage, Literature, Music, Fire Ceremony, Drumming & Mindfulness and all are welcome.
