Eilís Dillon-One Author, Five Islands is part of ‘Galway's Great Read 2020’, a series of events presented by Galway Public Libraries celebrating the centenary year of one of the west of Ireland’s most versatile writers.

Led by bi-lingual writer/facilitator Sadhbh Devlin, One Author; Five Islands focuses on Dillon’s children’s books Family of Foxes and Island Horses as class novels in primary schools on the five islands of Inisbofin, Inis Mór, Inis Oirr, Inis Meáin and Mynish Island in County Galway during October and November 2020.  

Initially planned as a series of workshops to be delivered in primary schools on the 5 islands during October, focusing on the themes, the language and the sense of place highlighted by Eilís Dillon in her novels. Revised as virtual workshops to be delivered by Sadhbh Devlin in each primary school, beginning with initial workshop in Irish / English in mid-October, followed by live Zoom workshops with writer Sadhbh Devlin in each school in November, exploring the outcomes of the work carried out in each school in response to these books.
