Fiber of our Being
This is a project of collaboration, sustainability, conversations and inspiration. Kilcoe Studios is going to work with Fibreshed to run an exhibition and events during mid to late summer.
These will centre around an exhibition in Kilcoe Studios premises in Ballydehob which will show craft which will use, promote and stimulate discussion around the source of our fibres for textiles in Ireland and how they are dyed. Mainly it will focus on wool and linen which not that long ago were part of the fabric of many communities in Ireland from farm to factory to homestead. There are a few small textile crafters and small business promoting the reintroduction of Irish grown fibre as a commercial reality and this exhibition and series of events aims to promote these small but passionate group of people.
In the exhibition we aim to have a selection of striking exhibition pieces alongside some wearable clothing and craft work made within Ireland whilst also having information that the public can browse through on what these small business are doing. Examples of craft workers we aim to work with are Liadan Aiken { knitwear } Malú and Aisleigh Ellis { natural dyeing } Kathy Kirwan { flax growing project } Galway wools { indigenous wool producer] .
