Farming Rathcroghan-Pastures New
Farming Rathcroghan are participating in the Bord Bia Bloom Festival as part of their Postcard Gardens/Exhibitor section. This event is part of our promotions and publicity schedule of events and activities for 2023, to bring the story of Rathcroghan to broader public attention. As one of the premier events in the country, the Bloom Festival, 1st-5th June offers a unique opportunity to showcase the work of the Farming Rathcroghan EIP project and Rathcroghan Visitor Centre attractions in County Roscommon to a larger audience.
We are proposing to build a small Postcard Garden.
The garden will also reflect the importance of farming tradition and its role and will also include miniature stone walls and miniature gates and cattle. One of the core elements of the garden proposal is to highlight the wildlife, hedging and biodiversity aspect of the project which was introduced as part of the farm plans in 2021.
We propose to grow biodiversity plants from seeds gathered from 2022 and to place those in garden in designated areas in representative buffer strips, pollinator strips and rewilding. These are intended to represent the whole of landscape approach that Farming Rathcroghan are taking and to build resilience into the project, not only for archaeology and farming but also for the growing recognition of biodiversity and the wider climate change in agriculture.
