Fairlane Benches Murals Project
The Fairlane Benches Murals Project will see the collaborative decoration of the seating in the outdoor performance area of the Fairlane Park in Dungarvan, County Waterford. The Walls Project (TWP), commissioned by Waterford City and County Council (WCCC), will work with four schools in Dungarvan’s newest multifunctional outdoor space. The aim of the project is to paint a series of concrete benches that surround the 24/7 outdoor performance space at Fairlane Park. The space, funded by Creative Ireland, has the potential to be Ireland’s first outdoor break dancing performance area as well as being available for general small-scale performances of all kinds.
The area is adjacent to a skatepark, learn to cycle track and BMX track. There are 8 cast concrete seats installed at the space and WCCC wishes to use these as canvases for street art, utilizing TWP’s mentoring programme in conjunction with young local artists, whose involvement is crucial in order to engender a sense of ownership in the project. 16 participants from local schools will be mentored by mural artists in the skills required to carry out various forms of visual street art.
The project will be completed in June and photographs will be shared on the Creative Waterford Facebook page.
