El Reid-Buckley - The Ireland We Dream/ed Of project
This five-day programme based in Ormston House brings together critical and community discourses in examining LGBTQIA+ life, identity, and community in contemporary Ireland. It is a collaboration between ALLTAR LK (a queer theory discussion group, led by El Reid-Buckley), Trans Limerick Community (a support organisation for trans people in Limerick), and creative-community organisation, Ormston House. This collaboration connects the academic, activist, and artistic communities within Limerick to develop a socially-engaged public arts programme.
Events include an intergenerational exchange, an artist panel on queer dreaming as praxis, an Irish dancing workshop, a trans writing showcase and a drag lesson by Indian drag king, Vamp Master Brown. This programme aims to foster local, national and international connections between LGBTQIA+ and artist communities, as well as those living and working in Limerick. The theme of this programme takes inspiration from the development of the Free State in the postcolonial moment to the contemporary ‘equality’ era.
